PM Nawaz, Afghan President present cheque, trophy to Afghanistan-A team

Islamabad: Afghanistan beat Pakistan by 54 runs in a friendly cricket match played between A teams of both the countries in Islamabad on Saturday.

Afghan President Ashraf Ghani and Prime Minister Mohammad Nawaz Sharif also witnessed the match. Afghanistan-A team won the toss and decided to bat first. During the stipulated 15 overs they scored 154 runs at the loss of four wickets.

Cashing the target Pakistan-A team scored 100 runs at the loss of nine wickets. Najibullah Zadran of Afghanistan was declared Man of the Match. Later, Afghan President Ashraf Ghani and Prime Minister Mohammad Nawaz Sharif distributed prizes among the players on their outstanding performance.

Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid, Interior Minister Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan, Minister for Commerce Khurram Dastgir, Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board Sheryar Khan and members of visiting Afghanistan delegation were also present on the occasion.

The match was organized on the sidelines of the Afghan President’s visit to Pakistan to give a push to people to people contacts and send a message that the two countries have a desire to build a relationship of cooperation and friendship.

The event also marks the significance of joint efforts to engage the youth in healthy activities for controlling extremism in the society.
