He said I remained associated from KU for 54 years and joined as a faculty member in 1966 at only 350 Rupees salary but never looked back and now I feel proud of my decision of joining KU. Its our collective responsibility to transfer our research and wisdom to the younger generations. Dr. Riaz ul Islam was a great personality and KU will always feel proud on him. He was not only associated with KU but taught at some distinguished international universities as well. Intellectual approach is not produced by just acquiring a PhD degree but having diversified nature and knowledge in the other disciplines as well which was the distinguished feature of Dr. Riaz’s personality. He was so humble and committed to his profession i.e. teaching and research that he humbly refused to become KU VC.

VC KU Prof. Dr. Mohammad Qaiser said that this is the best way to acknowledge the services of our great scholars. Dr. Riaz ul Islam was a highly distinguished researcher and historian. After retirement, being a Professor Emeritus, he used to regularly participate in the BASR meetings and gave his important input. His services are pivotal in raising the research standard of Karachi University. A great historian never distorts history and is always unbiased in his research and these qualities were present in him. Dr. Qaiser also announced to raise the annual grant of Institute of Central Asia and Western Asian Studies KU from 40,000 to 2,00,000.

He always preferred to render his services for the promotion of research and teaching instead of securing administrative positions. His research work has played an important role in the promotion of Pak Iran relations which has been also recognized by the Iranian higher ups. History department and Faculty of Social Sciences KU is playing a defining role in the promotion of research culture.

In this regard the services and leadership of Prof. Dr. S.M. Taha and guidance of VC KU Prof. Dr. M. Qaiser are highly commendable. Chairman History Dept. KU Prof. Dr. S. M.
