Walk on Feb 4 to mark World Cancer Day

LARKANA: A walk and a lecture will be held on Thursday in Larkana to mark the World Cancer Day. The international community is observing World Cancer Day every year on 4th February to make awareness among the people suffering from this deadly disease. Among the females, the most common kinds of cancer found are breast cancer, ovarian cancer, cervix cancer, CA lung, lymphoma and colorectal carcinoma. In males, the most common are CA lung, prostate, urinary bladder, colon, tongue, larynx, oesophagus, stomach and lymphoma. Both males and females also suffer from common cancer called Hepato Cellular Carcinoma.

As many as 469 such patients have so far been registered at Chandka Medical College Hospital in Oncology OPD since November 2014 which shows that many of the poor people are suffering from this deadly disease. The treatment of this disease is very costly and beyond the reach of common man.

These registered patients belong to Larkana division and parts of Balochistan. According to Oncologist Dr Jai Parkash Oad, “We are providing chemotherapy free of cost to the ailing patients along with drugs. “A new oncology 30-bedded department has also been constructed in CMCH which needs beds and other related material to start forthwith, he added

He said trained staff and running cost of this new department is urgently required for the benefit of poor needy patients for which SNE may be approved immediately. He said required quality drugs may also be procured which will greatly benefit the ailing patients. A walk will also be held on Thursday to mark World Cancer Day and to make awareness which will be followed by a lecture program.
