Why repatriation of Aafia being delayed: Fowzia

KARACHI: Why the release and repatriation of Pakistani woman scientist Dr Aafia is being delayed, asked Aafia Movement leader Dr Fowzia Siddiqui, while addressing a public gathering at Saleem Naz Park, Korangi in Karachi.

She said the daughter of the nation, Dr Aafia, and her three minor children were trafficked to the Americans in the month of March, 13 years ago. She said: “Now the rulers should make the month of March as the month of her release and repatriation.” She said all the claims of the rulers about her early release had proved a farce. She said the nation wanted immediate release of Aafia and the rulers should play their due role in this regard.

Dr Fowzia said the honour and respect of the daughters should be defended at every cost. She said the honour of the daughters should not be put for sale. She asked to make the month of March as the month of Aafia’s release. She said the release of Aafia is an overdue obligation and duty of the rulers. She said the chief of army staff should play the role of Mohammad Bin Qasim by getting the daughter of the nation released.

Pasban e Pakistan President Altaf Shakoor said for last two years we know nothing about Aafia. We even do not know in which jail she is kept. He said the role of politicians, who leave governments on the matter of just one ministry, on the issue of Aafia shows that these people are not interested to resolve the public issues. He said bureaucracy, parliamentarians, politicians and rulers show apathy when it is the matter of the public interest. He said this is the height of apathy which gives birth to downfall of nations. He said Aafia is innocent. She was kidnapped from Karachi and how a case was made against her in the United States of America? He said the trial of Aafia has already ended and now it is the trial of whole Ummah to play its role.

Pasban leader Sardar Zulfiqar said Aafia is our honour which the spineless rulers sold for the US dollars. He said it the time that the people should raise a strong voice and reminds the sitting rulers of their promises made before their coming to power. He said the conviction of Aafia is totally illegal and the leading legal experts of the world have already accepted the verdict of the US court against Dr Aafia Siddiqui was biased. He said the people of Pakistan through their peaceful protest would compel the rulers to take practical steps for the release of Aafia.

Jamiat Ulema e Islam (JUI) Korangi leader Dr Bashir Qadri said the rulers let Raymond Davis to go back to the USA, and they also handed them Amil Kansi, but they were afraid of demanding release of Dr Aafia Siddiqui. He said if the rulers are not able to protect the women why they are asking vote from the women. He said the prime minister and chief of army staff should play their role for the release of Aafia.

Two girl students Aisha and Amara also spoke on the occasion and appealed to the prime minister and chief of army staff for early repatriation of Aafia Siddiqui.
