156 policemen killed in over 14 months in Karachi

KARACHI: Inspector General of Police IGP Sind Ghulam Shabbir Shaikh here on Wednesday along Additional IG Traffic DIG Zafar Bukhari, DIG West Jawed Alam, SSP East Imran Shaukat, SSP Central Amir Farooqi, SSP West Asif Ejaz Shaikh, other police officers and neighbours attended the funeral prayer of police constable a slain Gulzar Husain at Garden Headquarters South. He was martyred in attack on police mobile in Nazimabad last night.

According to report issued by Sind police, 156 officials and cops of Karachi police were killed during encounters with criminals and terrorists’ attacks from January 2012 to date. The victims were one SP, one DSP, four Inspectors, 14 sub inspectors, 21 assistant sub inspectors, 24 head constables and 91 constables.

The report said 197 police officers or personnel were injured during the same period. The injured included four DSPs, five inspectors, 17 sub inspectors, 26 assistant sub inspectors, 28 head constables and 117 constables.

The report also shows that 37 police officers and personnel were killed and 85 others injured in Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Sukkur and Larkana during the same year.

On the occasion, IG Sind directed police officers that approved compensation and other relief be provided to the real heirs of slain policemen besides and one person from the victim family should be ensured job in police department.
