Alvi asks police to focus on Karachi

Karachi: Taking notice of law and order city of the province, especially Karachi, Caretaker Chief Minister Sind Justice (Rtd) Zahid Qurban Alvi here Tuesday instructed police to focus on containing crime and improving security situation of the city.

Presiding over a meeting on law and order at Chief Minister House, also attended by Chief Secretary Raja Muhammad Abbas, I.G Police Shahid Nadeem Baloch, Additional I.G.P Karachi Ghulam Shabbir Shaikh and other senior officers he asked the police officers to pay attention towards improvement of law and order in the province, particularly in Karachi. He asked them to ensure prompt action against criminals elements without discrimination.

He said he does not expect any miracle from police but at the same time, he is confident that as and when they make coordinated efforts, better results are achieved. He said that the main task of caretaker government was to conduct elections and provincial government will provide maximum possible assistance to election commission of Pakistan.

Justice (retd) Alvi maintained that it is prime duty of police to maintain law and order, and provide security of life and property of people without any fear or favour. He stressed that he wants action & performance and there must be liaison between all institutions- police, rangers and other LEA’s. He added that police will be empowered and provided with modern arms & ammunition, while their genuine problems will be solved so as to achieve best results as far maintenance of Law & Order is concerned.

He further said that traffic system be improved throughout province particularly in Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur and other cities, while efforts be made to improve signalling system, proper functioning of surveillance cameras and smooth flow of traffic without any hindrance or problem.

Caretaker Chief Minister added that any responsibility assigned to any officer, must be fulfilled in letter and spirit. He said we have to create a clear picture depicting of role of police in the minds of general public so that people should cooperate and support the LEA’s in connection with maintenance of peace. Besides it is essential to create working relationship among police, rangers and other law enforcing agencies, he added. He said that genuine problems faced to police officers officials will be solved in the interest of performance.

On the occasion, the police officers presented specific problems confronting to their responsibilities.
