At least 7 die in bus-van crash near Nawabshah

Nawabshah, Sindh: At least 7 people died and 20 other injured when a bus rammed into a van near here on Tuesday. Police said a passenger bus (JB-7373) going from Karachi to Bannu collided with a van (R-2563) at Bypass Road here. As a result seven people died on the spot. The victims were identified as 8-year Saiqa, 40-year Fareeda, 70-year Molvi Haneef Qureshi, Nawaz Ali Shah, Himat Ali Chandio, Hakim Ali and Zahid Ali.

Twenty people including Asmatullah, Gulab Shah, Raheemullah, Khanzadi, Hakeen Gul, Meher Jan Khatoon, Sameena, Muhammad Riza, Umaid Ali, Irfan Shah, Arshid Ghouri, Aashiq Kalyar and others were injured who were rushed to Peoples Medical College Hospital Nawabshah where medical superintendent Dr Hashim Langah declared emergency and all doctors and paramedics were summoned on duty.

DSP City Aijaz Tareen along with cops reached the hospital and donated blood. Many citizens also donated blood at the hospital.

However, SSP Nawabshah Javed Jaskani taking notice of the fatal accident suspended Traffic Sergeant Hameed Jalbani and also demoted him from inspector to sub-inspector. He also suspended SHO Taluka police station SHO Ali Nawaz Mallah.

Eyewitnesses said the van was being reckless driven and its driver failed to apply brakes. However, drivers of both bus and van fled after the accident.
