Business: SCCI expresses concern over cut in stalls meant of Sialkot exporters

Sialkot: Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry SCCI and all other main trade bodies of District Sialkot have expressed grave concern over 75 percent cut in stalls meant for Sialkot exporters to be affixed in world’s three biggest trade fairs.

During an important joint meeting held at the auditorium of SCCI here on Wednesday all main trade bodies strongly condemned the allegedly “step motherly” treatment of TDAP with Sialkot business community unanimously passed a resolution, demanding immediate restoration of the exhibitory stall’s quota of TDAP for Sialkot exporters.

Later addressing a press conference at SCCI President Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry SCCI Sheikh Abdul Majid said that the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan TDAP has reduced the numbers of stalls for Sialkot exporters from 60 to 10 only, which shows the 75 percent reduction by TDAP in this regards.

These trade exhibitory stalls were to be established by Sialkot exporters in world’s three main trade fairs namely ISPO Trade Fair , MEDICA Trade Fair and A+A Trade Fair to be held soon at Germany’s Munich and Dusseldorf cities soon.

He said that after this “cruel” reduction in the numbers of stalls for the Sialkot exporters, the Sialkot exporters would become out of the race and competition in the world trade markets. He said that the TDAP has also reduced the size of the rest stalls in the measurements there, as the TDAP made this nasty decision without taking the Sialkot exporters into confidence or without taking all the stake holders on board , in this regard.

The meeting was also told that the TDAP had recently formed its board and Sialkot was totally ignored in this board. It was the right of the Sialkot to be inducted in TDAP’s board. TDAP should take the Sialkot exporters on board and should give the Sialkot as its basic right in shape of its already allocated space for the stalls, in this regard.

The representatives of the Sialkot’s all the other main trade bodies including Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association PRGMEA, Pakistan Sports Goods Manufacturers and Exporters Association PSGMEA, Pakistan Gloves Manufacturers and Exporters Association PGMEA and Surgical Instruments Manufacturers Association of Pakistan SIMAP said that this “unwisely” step taken by the TDAP would prove itself as a cut throat for the Sialkot exports, as the TDAP authorities were treating Sialkot exporters as step motherly allegedly and were targeting Sialkot by reducing the number of the exhibitory stalls of the Sialkot exporters.

Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry SCCI have urged the Chairman TDAP Javaid Akhtar and secretary Ministry of Commerce Muneer Qureshi to ensure the early restoration of the trimmed down number of the trade exhibitory stalls for the Sialkot exporters, in this regard.
