Govt urged to compensate fire affectees

KARACHI: President All Pakistan Agricultural Produce Traders Federation APAPTF Malik Sohni on Friday urged the government to compensate fire affectees of New Sabzi Mandi and also provide basic civic facilities to the vegetable traders.

He expressed these views while addressing a press Conference at Karachi Press Club. He said traders have pay millions of rupees tax to government every year but rulers have not paid attention towards their problems.

He said around 3000 workers were affected and over 1100 shops and stalls were also gutted in Sabzi Mandi fire incident along Superhighway. He further said estimated Rs 190 million of property and goods were damaged in the fire, so the government should compensate the traders.

Hajji Abdul Razzaq urged the government to accept the genuine demands of vegetables traders and warned of protest demonstration if the compensation cheques are not released to traders in a week.

He gave a 15day ultimatum to the government for payment of compensation to the victims, otherwise they will close 150 Sabzi Mandis across the country.
