Independent, constitutional and nonpolitical caretaker government established: Najam Sethi

Islamabad: Caretaker Chief Minister Punjab Najam Sethi has said that this is for the 1st time in the history of Pakistan that independent‚ constitutional and nonpolitical caretaker governments have been established at the center and the provinces.

He stated this while addressing a press conference on Friday. He said that he will be the 1st to quit if any attempt was made or any conspiracy was hatched to extend the tenure of the caretaker setup.

He assured complete implementation on the directions of the Election Commission. Najam Sethi said that he is not going to make any policy decisions as the task of the caretaker government is to extend cooperation to the Election Commission in ensuring free‚ fair and transparent elections.

He said that he was neither interested nor canvassed for the office of the caretaker Chief Minister. He said that 5 to 6 impartial people would be part of the Punjab caretaker setup.

Responding a question regarding law and order situation he described law and order issue as the biggest problem. He said that threat of terrorism in the upcoming elections is very real and the Punjab Government will do all it can to stop the subversive acts in the province.

He said it is not completely possible to stop the terrorists from committing any terrorist act‚ but efforts can be made to thwart and prevent these with better coordination and preparation.

Caretaker Chief Minister said I am ninety percent sure that I will succeed in the objective of holding free and transparent elections. He told he has complete backing of Election Commission as far as the reshuffle of bureaucracy is concerned in the province.

He said that to ensure the prime objective of holding free and fair elections‚ he will change the whole bureaucracy and administrative setup. He said that political leadership he called has showed complete confidence in him. He said that media is my eyes and during caretaker setup it will have a pivotal role to ensure the prime objective of free and fair elections.
