Jirga settles Karokari murder dispute

Naudero, Sindh: A Jirga near here on Tuesday settled a dispute of Karokari murder.

As per details, one Himath Mohal had solemnized freewill marriage with a woman of his community in 1998 against the wishes of her family at Village Nandha Mohel. Later, in 2007, four cousins of the woman gunned him down in Naudero town.

On Tuesday a Jirga was convened under Sardar Agha Ali Khan Jalbani at village Masoo Dero. The Jirga imposed a fine of Rs0.3mn to the family of slain Himath Mohal for eloping the girl. It also imposed a fine of Rs0.6mn to accused Zahid, Shahid, Shabbir and Saith. After deducting the fine of Rs0.3mn the Jirga ordered the other party to pay Rs03mn to the father of the slain man. However, he refused to get any money and announced forgiving the killers of his son.

Later, the men of both the parties embraced one another as a token of goodwill and peace.

It may be recalled that the Supreme Court of Pakistan has banned conducting any Jirga; however, this order is often violated in Sindh province.
