KMC prepares disaster management plan

Karachi: Karachi Metropolitan Corporation KMC Administrator Syed Hashim Raza Zaidi has said that a comprehensive Disaster Management Plan has been prepared for city under which an Emergency Control Room would be established in the office of Commissioner Karachi for which emergency number 999 was being allocated so that citizens could inform about any incident.

The staff of control room through modern system would be able to monitor accidents and disasters on any location in the city and provide victims of any disaster with prompt medical aid. The staff in control room would be provided with valuable information through modern system and along with the condition of all roads the facilities of hospitals and information regarding empty beds could be attained.

The maps of all areas of the city have been prepared and complete information about every department at the time of any disaster would be available in control room so that citizens could also inform about any incident in the city. It was expected that these measures would minimize the loss of any disasters or incidents in future.

Administrator Karachi Syed Hashim Raza Zaidi said this while chairing a review meeting in his office. Road Traffic Injury Research & Prevention Centre presented report on traffic accidents and informed about condition of traffic accidents in the city and about effective measures taken by Transport & Communication Department.

He directed that Road Traffic Injury Research Centre should maintain strong coordination with Traffic Police and take every possible measure to curb the traffic accidents in the city. He also said that citizens should get basic training about dealing disasters and accidents.
