KMC to improve fire brigade

Karachi: Karachi Metropolitan Corporation KMC Administrator Syed Hashim Raza Zaidi has said that after the payment of employees’ salaries first priority was to improve fire brigade department and pack this with modern equipments and such small fire tenders and vehicles would be purchased which could move in congested streets and markets to easily arrive at the affected place in emergency situation.

He said this while addressing officers after a briefing of an international company about provision of modern equipment along with fire brigades and vehicles.

Chief Officer Matanat Ali Khan, Director General Technical Services Altaf G. Memon, Sr. Director Finance Munawwar Imam, Sr. Director Municipal Services Dr. Shaukat Zaman, Chief Fire Officer Ehtishamuddin and other officers were present on the occasion.

Administrator Karachi said that each month hundred officers and employees of fire brigade should be provided with modern trainings of fire fighting, basic medical aid, civil defence and rescue for which Master Trainers from Civil Defense Academy Lahore and Islamabad would be called.

He said at the time of emergency big fire tenders in some areas like Old City Area, Lyari, Bolton Market and Lines Area could not arrive which cause wasting of precious lives and property therefore it was necessary to include small vehicles in Fire Brigade Department.

On this occasion Sr. Director Municipal Services Dr. Shaukat Zaman informed that 1355 employees and officers were working in Fire Brigade and all employees were provided with basic training of fire fighting.

He also informed that 11 Emergency Response Centers have been established so far out of which 8 centers have fire tenders, ambulances and rescue staff all the time.

Administrator directed Sr. Director Municipal Services and Chief Fire Officer to inform him about complete information of department in two days and improve the department on modern lines.

He also directed to get damaged fire tenders and vehicles mended so that timely help could be sent in emergency.

On this occasion company of Bahrain, Amaan International gave a briefing about modern equipments and fire brigades.
