KPCCI rejects imposition of Sales Tax on printing of Islamic books

Peshawar: The Printers and Publishers Standing Committee of Khyber Pukhtunkhwa Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Frontier Printers and Publisher Association have rejected the Text Book Board decision of imposing sales text on Islamic and curriculum books.

Printers and Publishers Standing Committee of Khyber Pukhtunkhwa and Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Frontier Printers and Publisher Association also rejected the deduction of sales Tax on printers’ bills and announced to launch a comprehensive campaign besides consulting the court against the deduction.

in this connection a joint meeting of Printers and Publishers Standing Committee of Khyber Pukhtunkhwa Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Frontier Printers and Publisher Association was held on Thursday at Chamber office. Sharyar Lodhi of Printers and Publishers Standing Committee of Khyber Pukhtunkhwa Chamber of Commerce and Industry chaired the meeting.

Representatives of Frontier Printers and Publisher Association under its president Iqtidar Ali Akhunzada also participated in the meeting. The joint meeting expressed dismay over the deduction of sales tax from old bills of printers and termed it totally illegal and violation of law.

The meeting observed that under Article 65 of Sales Tax Act and Sales Tax Act 1930 no deduction can be made from the old bills while under this act various things including printing of Islamic books and curriculum books had been exempted from the Sales Tax.

The meeting strongly condemned Text Book Board for imposition of Sales Tax on the printing materials already been exempted from sales tax and announced that this act will be resisted at every forum including filling case against Text Book Board in the court.
