OIC urges US to reverse its decision to close PLO Office in Washington

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) urged the government of the United States to reconsider the decision to shut down the Office of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) office in Washington.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the OIC has said it believes that the decision does not serve the chances of achieving peace, contradicts the responsibilities of the US as a superpower, and undermines the ongoing efforts for the achievement of the two-state solution.

The Pan-Islamic body affirmed that the US had acted as a sponsor of the peace negotiations between the Palestinians and the Israelis and assumed a pivotal role in pushing the peace process forward. It is hoped, the OIC stated, that the US would reconsider its latest position which would only cause a drift away from the road leading to the aspired peace.

The OIC General Secretariat renewed its support to the PLO, as the sole legitimate representative of the Palestinian people, in its efforts towards the achievements of a just and comprehensive solution to the issue of Palestine and the recovery of the Palestinian people’s rights through all means permitted under international legitimacy and in line with the objectives of the Charter of the United Nations and its resolutions.
