Pak’s national biodiversity clearing house mechanism launched

Islamabad: Pakistan’s National Biodiversity Clearing House Mechanism (CHM) has been launched in a Forest Festival on the occasion of International Day of Forests 2013 on Thursday.

The event was organized by Ministry of Climate Change. Addressing on the occasion Member Forest and Agriculture, Planning Commission Mr. Javed Malik underlined the need of forestation for the economic growth and environmental up-gradation of the country.

He said that Ministry of Climate Change has adopted appropriate measures to create awareness among the masses about environment issues and also provided opportunity to all the stakeholders to contribute for the cause.

Javed Malik further said that a mile stone has been achieved by launching the Pakistan’s National Biodiversity Clearing House Mechanism (CHM) which is a one window, access to all Biodiversity related information on Pakistan, with link to the global systems.

The CHM has been prepared by the Ministry of Climate Change in collaboration with WWF Pakistan after consulting many National and Provincial Organizations that generate and use data related to all aspects of life covered under the UN Convention on Biodiversity.

The Inspector General Forests, Mr. Mehmood Nasir Syed said that the objective of the Forest Festival is to bring together all key stakeholders and learning from their experiences of forestry issues and solutions.

Mr. Kevin Gallagher, FAO Representative highlighted the importance of International Forest Day. Corporate Social Responsibility was narrated by Dr. Moin ud Din CSR Head of Serena. Dr. Anees ur Rehman Himalayan Wildlife Foundation discussed.
