Probe demanded into shoddy Chinese locomotives scam

Karachi: Railway Workers Union has demanded a probe into the mega scandal of purchase of faulty railway locomotives from China during the government of Gen Pervez Musharraf, which dealt a fatal blow to Pakistan railways.

Railway Workers Union president Manzoor Razi, general secretary Rao Naseem and vice president Junaid Awan in a statement here Sunday said the purchase of faulty locomotives from China is amongst the mega corruption scandals of Pakistan and those behind it should be taken to the task and the looted national money recovered from them.

They said the probes against ex-Chairman of Ogra and EOBI officers are welcome; however, the Supreme Court of Pakistan should also order a detailed probe into the Chinese locomotive scam and recovery of bribed money from its main characters including the then railway minister.

They said the other scandals of railway during the era of same railway minister including sell-out of railway lands and assets for peanuts should also be probe and billions of the looted money recovered from the culprits and used for restructuring of Pakistan railways.
