SHC grants 10day protective bail to Amin

Karachi: The Sind High Court SHC on Tuesday granted 10 days protective bail to senior leader of PPP and Former Federal Minister for Commerce, Makhdoom Amin Faheem in the National Insurance Company Limited NICL land scam case.

A single bench, comprising of Chief Justice Mushir Alam gave Amin Faheem bail in the sum of Rs500000. On Monday, accepting the charge sheet filed by Commercial Banking Circle CBC of Federal Investigation Agency FIA, the judge of the special federal anticorruption court II, Sanaullah Khan Ghory, had issued the non-bailable warrants against PPP leader Amin Fahim and others and directed the FIA to arrest and produce them in court by April 12.

As per prosecution, Amin Fahim illegally appointed former NILC chairman Ayaz Khan Niazi, and in connivance with other suspects, former federal minister embezzled Rs900mn in the purchase of the land in question and out of this amount, Rs41million was transferred in the loan account of Amin Fahim and members of his family in a private bank.

Seeking proactive bail, accused Amin Fahim filed a petition on Tuesday. He submitted through his counsel Rasheed A Rizvi that FIA filed interim charge sheet on December 6, 2012 before the Anticorruption court central II Karachi, wherein his name was not mentioned, subsequently he added that final Charge Sheet on December 29, 2012 was filed which also did include his name.

However, he maintained that FIA acted mala fide and implicated him by including his name as accused in Supplementary Charge Sheet filed before special federal anticorruption court II. He said that he and his family had denied all the allegations against him including appointment of Muhammad Ayaz Khan Niazi and secondly purchase of ten acres of land in Korangi.

Therefore, he prayed to court to grant him protective bail for two weeks so that he may be able to surrender before trail court.
