Shia community demands protection

Peshawar: Shia community of Peshawar on Thursday demanded of the government to provide them security and arrest the culprits involved in target killing and award them punishment. Speaking at a news conference here at Peshawar Press Club, Major (red) Syed Hasnain Haider Kazmi, convener Imamia Raabta Council (IRC) said law enforcement agencies had failed in provision of security to Shia community as many had been targeted during last few weeks. He lamented that after the incidents the criminals successfully escaped and still police personnel failed to arrest offenders. Similarly, he added that on last Wednesday in Gulberg Peshawar Khuwaja Imran, Local Government Sub Divisional Officer (SDO) had been killed while his son Ali Raza got injuries and now in critical condition. He demanded of the government to take steps for the early release of Syed Sarfaraz Jafar, who he added had been kidnapped two days ago. He announced that Shia community would not register First Investigation Report (FIR) in any case of target killing as he said he had no trust on police. He warned if provincial government failed to control target killing, Shia community would stage protest set-in outside embassies of Arab countries and United Nation office in Pakistan.
