Three including President’s security man die in suspected suicide attack

Karachi: Chief Security Officer of President Asif Ali Zardari along two other persons was killed, while 11 others injured in a suspected suicide bomb blast near Guru Mandir Chowrangi, within the jurisdiction of Jamshed Quarter police station, Karachi on Wednesday.

Police said Chief Security Officer of President Asif Ali Zardari Bilal Sheikh, 40, his driver Irfan Zaidi and owner of a roadside vendor were killed in a suspected suicide attack near New Town mosque at Guru Mandir area. The incident took place when Bilal was on his way home on his bulletproof vehicle bearing registration number AJK 7838. The police said he stopped here to buy something when the incident took place.

Five policemen, Asif, Ayaz, Aadil, Kashan , Waqas and a FIA personal Akram were injured in the incident. The other injured were identified as Shakil, Farrukh, Faizan, Khaliq and Kashif.

The bodies and injured were rushed to Civil Hospital Karachi CHK and Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre JPMC for postmortem and treatment, respectively.

Superintendent of Police SP Jamshed Town Usman Bajwa said three people were killed on spot and 11 other injured in explosion occurred near New Town mosque. The explosion was heard far and wide and shattered windowpanes of several vehicles. Panic gripped the whole area, leading to closure of shops and markets.

The body of Bilal Sheikh was moved to Civil Hospital Karachi for autopsy. The victim was an active worker of Pakistan Peoples’ Party PPP District Central Karachi City area and also a close aide of President Asif Ali Zardari.

President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah have strongly condemned the terrorist activity.
