100 KW transmitter could still not be installed in Radio Pakistan LarkanaSeptember 9, 2015
LARKANA: The 100 KW transmitter could still not be installed in Radio Pakistan Larkana. In this connection Nisar Shaheen, Secretary Sindhi Adabi Sangat, Larkana; Abdul Sattar Khuhawar, Vice President, Arts Council; noted writers Adil Abbasi, Qasim Kehar, Qadeer Shaikh and others have flayed Radio Pakistan authorities for showing lethargy.
They said that this is not the issue of Larkana but it pertains to wellbeing of Sindhi language, which is suffering for their negligence. They said that hidden conspiracy behind making the transmitter so far non-functional should be exposed and properly probed. They demanded of the federal government to make it functional without loss of further time so that people get benefitted in this information technology era.
It must be mentioned here that 100 KW transmitter of Radio Pakistan, Larkana, has not yet been energized since 2008, despite passage of seven years, which has created unrest among the artists, employees and literary figures. This was the dream of slain PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto that the voice of Radio Pakistan Larkana should heard beyond the country’s borders. Sources said that Rs 10 million were paid to SEPCO in 2014, but the concerned civil engineers are demanding bribe of Rs 10 million to energize the transmitter and supply electricity.
The SEPCO has erected faulty poles along with HT cables, but they are reluctant to restore power to the station located on Larkana-Naundero Road near Chooharpur village where AC plants have also been installed. The building is lying idle at the moment as grass has grown there. The building is 2-story having 10 rooms and is located at 26 acres of precious land which was inaugurated by Benazir Bhutto in 1996.
The 630 KVA PMT is also lying on the ground. Initially, the transmission of the radio was started from 1 KW in 1995 and in 2000, it was converted into 93.3 FM transmission with 2 KW local transmission having about 20 square kilo meters range, which still is continuing. This shows the negligence of the administration, which must be probed thoroughly. These sources further said that hidden hands want to get the heavy transmitter shifted to Khairpur.
