10th Muharram: Public hospitals put on high alertNovember 2, 2014
KARACHI: Health Department Sindh and Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) have declared emergency in all the public sector hospitals of Karachi and other parts of province and ordered availability of doctors, paramedics and medicines.
However, Director Health Karachi declared emergency in 18 town health offices of the city till 12th Muharram and also established medical camps in this regard.
The health department has directed all the heads and Medical Superintendents of public hospitals to alert the doctors, paramedical and nursing staff, while ambulance service and blood banks should be kept open round-the-clock.
In the lights of these instructions, medical superintendents canceled the leaves of employees.
All hospitals administrations were directed to provide best available treatment to the mourners and participations of the mourning processions if and when needed.
Meanwhile, Director Health Karachi Dr Zafar Ejaz said emergency has been declared in all the towns of city and all health units will remain operative till 12th Muharram. He said leaves of employees have been cancelled till the emergency ends.
He said a control room has also established in director health Karachi office to monitor the activities of town health offices and this control room will remain functional round o clock.
Joint Executive Director, Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center (JPMC), Dr Seemin Jamali has cancelled the leave of all employees and directed them to ensure their presence in the hospital. She said all the operation theaters and departments will remain functional on 10th Muharram.
She said JPMC is largest emergency catering hospital of Karachi city and have capacity to deal 150 patients in its accident & emergency department; however, in case of any emergency this department could handle up to 500 emergency patients.
