10th polio case reported in Karachi

Karachi: Another new polio case was reported in Karachi city on Thursday, taking the total to 10 in Sindh province, while number of cases reached 108 during 2014 across Pakistan, confirmed a Health Department Sindh official.

Senior official of health department Dr Ahmed Shaikh said four new wild type 1 polio cases were reported from different parts of the country. One each was reported from Sindh, FATA, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab provinces and total cases reached 108 in Pakistan in 2014.

He said 77 cases were reported from FATA (NWA 58, Swat 07, Khyber 10, FR Bannu 2) and 19 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (Peshawar 08, Bannu 09, Mardan 01, Lakki Marwat 01).

He further said 10 cases were reported from Sindh out of which nine from Karachi and one from Sanghar. He said four cases were reported from Gadap town, while one each case was reported from Baldia, Orangi, SITE, Landhi, North Karachi and Sanghar District.

He said one each case was also reported from Balochistan (Qilla Abdullah) and Punjab (Chakwal) so far.
