15 Forests Officers/Official including Chief Conservator , DFO suspended

Peshawar: The Provincial Government have placed the services of 15 Forests Officers/Official including Chief Conservator of Forests, Sardar Sultan, Conservator of Forests Raja Imtiaz, DFO Mr. Amjad Samad under suspension and 12 others for their inability to protect cutting of hundreds of poine trees in Massar Forests of Siran Division District Mansehra and their active connivance with timber mafia.

Director Anti-Corruption has been asked to initiate action against the accused officers/officials under the relevant section of law in order to discourage and curb illegal cutting of forest.

To implement policy of Provincial Government for green and clean Khyber Pakhtunkhwa various initiatives have been taken which also include plantation of one billion trees. Besides, conservation, protection and preservation of existing forest cover is one of the prime priority of Provincial Government.

Taking cognizance of massive cutting of forest,  Mr. Amjad Ai Khan Chief Secretary, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa directed Secretary Forests to personally visit the illegally cut forests specially in Siran Forest Division Mansehra which was inspected by the Secretary Forests, Environment and Wildlife. Hundreds of trees were found cut illegally.

To cover up the crime/destruction, forests cover was set on fire which further caused colossal damages to the remaining forest. A fact finding inquiry committee has immediately been deputed to rush to the venue/damage forest and submit its findings within 7 days for initiating disciplinary proceedings against the officers/officials of the Forest Department found involved in illicit cutting.
