16,500 cops deployed on Youm-e-Ali: Jamali

KARACHI: Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh Ghulam Haider Jamali on Thursday said that infallible security plan has been designed for Karachi on the eve of Youm-e-Shahadat of Hazrat Ali (RA), to be observed on Sunday.

Jamali visited Kharadar police station, Methadar police satiation and Nashtar Park and reviewed the security arrangement regarding Youm-e-Ali (RA). He said that at least 16,500 security officials including personnel of traffic police will be deployed along the procession routes in Karachi. He said that special arrangements have been made in other parts of the province as well.

Earlier, on Wednesday, the Home Department Sindh had imposed a ban on pillion riding in Karachi and Sukkur divisions, which will remain effective from Ramadan 19 to 21.

This has been decided keeping in view the terrorism threats and to ensure law and order in Sindh on the eve of Youm-e-Ali (RA).
