QUETTA: Seventeen point three (17.3) million people die of heart diseases every year in the world. Of these 80 percent are from progressing countries. In Pakistan a young man of 21 year of age died of cardiac arrest for the first time.
These views were expressed by experts and senior cardiologists while speaking during inaugural ceremony of 2-day 5 th Preventive Cardiology congress here Saturday.
Congress would continue on Sunday where Balochistan Governor Muhammad Khan Achakzai would be chief guest.
Heart specialists form four provinces, Azad Kashmir were attending in large numbers. They included Dr Samad. General (Rtd) Dr Azhar Kayani, Dr Haqdad Tareen, Dr Munaf Tareen and others.
A delegation of doctors from Afghanistan was also attending the Congress. They included doctors from Kabul, Heart and Kandahar.
Speakers said there is no count of age for this disease. It increase with increase of age. Pakistan is atop of list of heart patients. A young man of 21 years of age died of heart attack. He was the youngest heart patient.
They asked media and NGOs to play their role against smoking. Pesh imams in the mosques should declare it ‘Haram” and launch a drive against it. They said major cause of this disease is malnutrition, smoking.
They said objective of two day congress in Quetta is to create awareness among the masses of heart diseases and preventive measures. They said government was taking measures t the country level but holding government and health department responsible for it is not correct but everyone should play its role in this connection. They said unless we give up smoking we would continue to suffer from this disease. Therefore people should give up smoking at their own. They should also avoid such food as causes harm.
