251 commandoes to protect traffic cops

KARACHI: On the request of traffic authorities, Central Police Office (CPO) Sindh has sent at least 351 commandos and sufficient quantity of ammunition for security and training of traffic cops to Karachi Traffic Police Department on Tuesday.

In the first phase of training, at least 150 traffic policemen would be sent on Thursday to get training in all kinds of weapons’ use at Rapid Reforms Force (RRF) Base under the ADIG Traffic in Qayoomabad, Karachi, said DIG Traffic Karachi Dr Amir Ahmed Shaikh while talking to PPI on Tuesday after presiding over a meeting with All SSPs, DSPs and SOs held at Karachi Traffic Police Department.

After the killing of six traffic cops in Karachi in a week, the traffic authorities came into motion and they wrote an official letter to IGP for demanding police and rangers for the security of traffic police on 309 spots which were dangerous for them in the city.

DIG Amir thanked to IGP Ghulam Hyder Jamali of completion of their demand on urgent basis.

DIG earlier told that traffic police had withdrawn these spots which were unsafe for them to regulate the traffic without any security plan.

Dr Amir said that another meeting has also been arranged on upcoming Sunday with deceased families of 25 martyred traffic policemen who had lost their lives for the nation in the city. He said the meeting would resolve all kind of issues of heirs that are related with benefits and salaries.
