303 profiteers fined Rs461600

KARACHI: In a massive crackdown on profiteers, 303 shopkeepers were charged with Rs 461600 fine for selling commodities above government rates. Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui has said that the campaign launched against profiteers would continue till they ensured that the commodities were sold at fixed rates.

In the crackdown, 54 milkmen, 20 shopkeepers of general commodities, 48 chicken sellers, three meat sellers, 69 vegetable sellers, 105 fruit sellers and four bakers were fined for selling essential items at excessive prices, while six persons were sent to jail for continuous violation of official rates.
