55 profiteers fined Rs559300, 10 jailed

KARACHI: In a massive crackdown against profiteers, 255 shopkeepers were charged with Rs 559300 fine for selling commodities above government rates. Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui has said that the campaign launched against profiteers would continue till they ensured that the commodities were sold at fixed rates.

In the crackdown, 55 milkmen, 15 shopkeepers of general commodities, 34 chicken sellers, 66 vegetable sellers, 83 fruit sellers, one baker and one flour seller were fined for selling essential items at excessive prices, while 10 persons were sent to jail for continuous violation of official rates.
