56 profiteers find, 11 arrested in KarachiJanuary 20, 2015
KARACHI: Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Saddiqui said on Wednesday that a crackdown was continued against profiteers across the city. The crackdown was launched against the sellers of milk, flour, vegetable, meat, fruit, chicken, and other commodities who were selling goods above government rates. He said that in the latest crackdown, 56 shopkeepers were challanned and a total of Rs 124,500 fine was charged from them.
Crackdowns were launched in different areas of the city that included Liaqatabad, Gulberg, Nazimabad, North Nazimabad, New Karachi, Murad Memon, Model colony, Shahfaissal, Saddar, Aram Bagh, Civil Lines, Garden, Harbour, Jamsheed Quarter, Gulzar-e-Hijri, Orangi Town, Baldia Town, Landhi, Korangi, and Malir.
Siddiqui said that the crackdowns were launched by Assistant Commissioners in the city in which 19 milkmen, 18 shopkeepers of general commodities, seven vegetable sellers, two fruit sellers and 10 chicken sellers were fined for selling essential items at excessive prices, while 11 profiteer were arrested due to continuous violation.
The commissioner said the profiteers would not be allowed to plunder people. He said campaign launched against profiteers would continue till they ensured that the commodities were sold at fix rate.
