69th Independence Day of Indonesia celebrated

KARACHI: In the morning on Sunday, a flag hoisting ceremony was held at the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Karachi to celebrate the 69th Independence Day.

All Karachi based Indonesian Community, Indonesian Students, staffs of the Indonesian Consulate General and their families attended the event with great zeal and enthusiasm. A number of Pakistanis friends, who were especially invited to attend the event, also grace the ceremony.

Acting Consul General of the Republic of Indonesia in Karachi, Sugihartono, in his address threw the light on the Independence struggle that martyred hundred of Indonesian heroes in their fighting for sovereignty.

Three Indonesian Youth in smart Indonesian official uniform hoisted the Indonesian national flag accompanied by Indonesian national anthem. The acting consul general also presented an special honoraria to a widow of Pakistani troop who sacrificed life during the Indonesia’s Independence war in 1945, at the ceremony.

Speaking at the ceremony, the acting consul general took the opportunity to convey warm greetings to the people of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, who also celebrated their Independence Day on the 14th August, 2014. He extended heartiest felicitations and best wishes to the government and the people of Pakistan on the 68th anniversary of the independence.

The acting consul general distributed prizes among the winners and runners-up of the different games held by the Consulate. Photo exhibition, cultural performance, children fashion show of traditional Indonesian dress and Indonesian culinary were also arranged to celebrate the Independence Day.
