Peshawar: Hangu is the Southern District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province and a part of Kohat Division. It got the status of District in 1996. After getting the status of District, the Tehsil Headquarter Hospital Hangu was also upgraded to District Headquarter Hospital in the same building. But, the Tehsil Headquarter Hospital Building was not sufficient to cater the needs of District Headquarter Hospital.

Therefore, the provincial government approved a new building for it in 2006 at a cost of Rs.250 Million on main Hangu-Thall Road outside the Hangu city. However, due to poor law and order situation at that time and repeated inquiries, this very important people-welfare project could not be completed in stipulated time and its expenditure also reached to Rs.650 Million instead of Rs.250 Million.

Soon after coming into power, The PTI-led provincial government has released the required funds for the said hospital building for its early completion and now 95% work has been done on it and expected to be handed over to the Health Department in the current financial year. It is very encouraging aspect that in the year 2015-16 too, work on this project is being done on the rate of 2009-10.

The new building of the said hospital has been constructed on 87 Kanals land and it will be equipped with all latest healthcare facilities. The hospital besides having a central building also had a 2-storey separate Gynae Ward for women.

There are also 3 separate Hostels for Doctors, Nurses and Paramedics besides 7 bungalows and 22 quarters in it. The hospital also has a beautiful mosque, huge car parking and own potable drinking water system.

No doubt, this mega project is really welfare oriented one and it would ensure better healthcare facilities to the people of Hangu district at their doorstep. It would definitely ease burden on the hospitals of Kohat and Peshawar.
