A quarter of PHF budget should be spend on women hockey: KhushbakhtMarch 25, 2014
Karachi: Khushbakht Shujaat, President Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) Women Wing, on Tuesday said that PHF should spend one quarter of its budget on women hockey.
“There is a great potential among our women players. They need more exposure and tournaments to lift their game. So I think the federation should spend a quarter of the budget on women hockey,” Khushbakht told reporters during a press briefing regarding National Women Hockey Championship, which is scheduled to begin from Wednesday, here at Hockey Club of Pakistan.
She announced that the tournament is scheduled to run from March 26 to April 4 and ten teams from across the country will be seen in action during the tournament.
Meanwhile, Tazeela Aamir, Secretary PHF Women Wing, said that talented players should be groomed well and also be given international exposure.
“There is an immense need of international for our players so that they could polish their talent and perform well in the international arena in near future,” Tanzeela said.
Erum Bukhari, Secretary Sindh Women Hockey Association (SWHA) and tournament’s organizing secretary, on the occasion said SWHA has already organized Inter-Division Championship and has also distributed hockey sticks to women players.
“We will also be organizing Benazeer Cup and Inter-Division in Larkana and Sukkur at newly laid Astroturfs respectively in near future,” she said.
Nisar Khoro, Senior Minister for Education will be the chief guest during the opening ceremony of the tournament.
