Accused extortionist remanded in police custody till 13thSeptember 5, 2014
Karachi: Anti-Terrorism Court-III (ATC-III) on Saturday remanded one accused, Mohammad Waseem alias Waseem Beater in police custody till 10 September 2014 in a money extortion case.
Police produced the extortionist in police mobile before ATC-III under tight security.
According to the prosecution, the accused were involved in different cases of demanding extortion and threats of killing in case of non-payment in different areas.
The Investigation Officer, Inspector Zahid Shah, submitted that accused was absconder in a case pending before this court and police re-arrested him on 5th September 2014. The IO requested that police needed his investigation and physical custody to trace his connections and other accomplices in the crime.
Advocate Arif appeared on behalf of accused and opposed grant of remand of accused in police custody; however, the court accepted the request of police and remanded the accused to police custody till 10th September.
The case (FIR No 75/2013) was registered under Section 385 (Putting person in fear of injury in order to commit extortion), 386(Extortion by putting a person in fear of death or grievous hurt) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code read with Section 7of the Anti-Terrorism Act at the Napier police station.
