Accused remanded to jail custody in extortion case

Karachi: An Anti-Terrorism Court-III (ATC-III) on Wednesday remanded an accused, Mohammad Waseem alias Waseem Beater, to jail custody till 12th September 2014 in money extortion case.

Police produced the extortionist before the court under tight security. According to the prosecution, the accused was involved in different extortion cases and hurling threats to kill citizens in case of non-payment in different areas.

The Investigation Officer, Inspector Zahid Shah, submitted that accused was absconder in the case pending before this court and police re-arrested him on 5 September 2014.

IO requested that police needed his further investigation and physical custody to trace his connections and other accomplices in the crime. However, the court rejected the request of police and remanded the accused to jail custody for two days. ATC-III Judge directed IO to submit supplementary challan of the case.

The case FIR No 75/2013) was registered under Section 385 (Putting person in fear of injury in order to commit extortion), 386 (Extortion by putting a person in fear of death or grievous hurt) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code read with Section 7of the Anti-Terrorism Act at the Napier police station.
