Accused remanded to police in extortion case

KARACHI: An Anti-Terrorism court (ATC) on Monday remanded an accused Ayaz to police custody till 12 March 2015 in a money extortion case.

Police produced the accused before the ATC judge under tight security. The investigation officer requested that the police needed physical custody of the accused to trace his connections and criminal activities. The court accepted the police request and remanded the accused to their custody till 12 March.

According to prosecution, the accused was involved in extortion cases within the jurisdiction of Sachal police station, and police arrested him on 1 March 2014.

The case was registered at Sachal police station under section 386 (extortion by putting a person in fear of death or grievous hurt ) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code read with under Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997.
