KARACHI: Railway Workers Union Chairman Manzoor Rizi demanded on Thursday that strict action should be taken against the Business Train contractor for inflicting huge loss to railway sector.

He said that after the passage of four years to the contract of Business train, the railway authority had cancelled the contract and is operating it itself. He said the contract was signed in the tenure of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) government, with Four Brothers and Company on political affiliations. He said earlier, it was decided that the contractor will be bound to give 72% of his earnings to railway authority, while it would be able to enjoy the remaining part of money but contrary to this, the contractor was not fully committed with the contract.

He said when the agreement was signed, Awami National Party (ANP) leader Ghulam Ahmed Bilour was the railway minister. He said that it was decided in contract that the party would bear the engine and other expenditures of train, but the contractor did not obeyed the conditions. He used railway engine and its 15 couches and oil for its operation. Rizi said that Bilour is responsible for this huge loss of Rs 230 million to the railway authority.

He demanded that the case should be filed against the party and amount should be recovered. He demanded that the contract of Shalimar Express 1 and 2 should be cancelled and railway authority should operate its affairs.
