Administration warns jailing profiteers in RamazanJune 16, 2015
KARACHI: Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui on Wednesday strictly warned profiteers and hoarders to refrain from troubling citizens during the holy month of Ramazan.
Strict action will be taken against culprits and administration would even not desist to send them to jails in Ramazan, he said while addressing a press briefing while announcing Ramazan Package at his office. He detailed about the prices of commodities and goods fixed by the city administration.
Siddiqui said the administration had taken different measures to ensure sale of edibles at fair prices. In this connection a comprehensive Ramazan Package had been prepared in which prices had been fixed in cooperation with manufacturers and producers of different commodities. Steps were also taken to make market committee effective.
The administration officers will supervise auctions at Sabzi Mandi in the night and the morning. Comprehensive planning has been done to fix prices of vegetables and fruits. The officer present on duty will note down auction rates of the items and take signature of the relevant commissioner agent, he said.
He said efforts were being made to first control prices from main markets, manufacturers, producers and Bachat Bazaars so that retailers did not have any excuse of commodities’ being expensive.
The commissioner Karachi said rates had been fixed on 78 items which included rice, lentils, spices, dry fruits and other items. Prices on 16 items had been reduced, while on 59 items prices were maintained same. The prominent item of Ramazan dates would be sold on retail as follows: Irani dates at Rs169/kg, Sukker dates at Rs127 and Busra dates at Rs127.
He said rates of samosa, pakora, khajla, pheni, nimko and bakery items would remain same as in the previous Ramazan.
Price on flour, roti, edible oil, ghee and tea has been reduced by many manufacturers and shopkeepers. Flour will be sold at 85 flour mills at Rs35/kg, while in the market it will be sold at Rs39/kg. Small Chakki flour will be sold at Rs43/kg, he said.
Siddiqui said special stalls would be established by different edible oil and ghee companies in different Bachat Bazaars where they will offer special discount of Rs15/kg on oil and Rs10/kg on ghee. Quality goods will be sold in Bacahat Bazaars at fair rates under constant monitoring by administration officers.
