Director General Technical Services Niaz Ahmed Soomro informed the administrator about the progress of work. He said about 70 percent of work on Malir Halt flyover had been completed. The the 440 feet long and 4 lane flyover has an estimated cost of Rs462 million after which traffic problems around this point would be solved. He said that the Malir 15 flyover was extended up to Azeempura and linked with a new flyover to facilitate the traffic coming from Landhi and Star gate. The administrator said work on both the projects was being done speedily, whereas, the funds had been also released by the Sindh government. Replying to a query, he said the mega projects would not be delayed now. He said KMC did not have enough resources to complete the mega projects on time as it paid Rs200million each month in the salaries account from its own resources.
He said efforts were on to increase the resources of KMC and achieve the revenue target so that the problems of the city could be solved without any hurdle. Soomro said the ongoing projects would be finished first after which new projects would be initiated as and when required. He instructed the officials to further speed up work on the Malir 15 flyover which he said was a big flyover, therefore, work on it should be carried out round the clock.
Soomro said he would again visit the sites of these projects after a week and inspect the pace of work. Action would be taken in case any negligence was found.
