Administrator opens swimming pools at Sports Complex

KARACHI: Administrator Karachi Saqib Ahmed Soomro on Tuesday said with completion of renovation of swimming pools in Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) Sports Complex at the cost of Rs2 million the citizens would get opportunity to participate in healthy and recreational activities.

The families and kids who are interested in swimming could be able to enjoy benefits of swimming pools after getting membership of KMC Sports Complex. Membership is open for any citizen who can avail it by paying its fee,” he said while talking to media after inaugurating the swimming pools.

Senior director sports, culture & recreation, director general technical services, senior director municipal services and other officers were also present on the occasion.

The administrator said members could be able to swim in a better and secure environment now. Spain-imported advanced technological filter plant has been installed to keep the water in the swimming pools clean and without germs.

He said it took around a year to complete the renovation of swimming pools under Annual Development Program (ADP). The swimming pools had been built according to the international norms.

There are three kinds of swimming pools in the complex. The central swimming pool is 164 feet long and 67 feet wide, while its depth is 5 feet. The length of diving pool is 50 feet, width is 42 feet and its depth is seventeen feet. There is a swimming pool for kids as well of 12 diameter in round shape,” he said.

Soomro said the KMC Sports Complex office should be contacted for membership.

Senior director sports, culture and recreation said mixing of chlorine in water of the pools was not needed as the advanced technology filter plant would keep it clean from any germs. A long fiber shade had also been installed and playing area for children had been improved where swings were installed.
