Advisor: (Pakistan will achieve Sustainable Development Goals: Sartaj)December 6, 2015
ISLAMABAD: Advisor on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz has said that Pakistan will achieve the sustainable development goals recently adopted by the United Nations.
Addressing the 8th South Asia Economic Summit here on Monday, he said though the country could not achieve many of the Millennium Development Goals but now it is well poised to achieve the economic targets.
He emphasized the need of rural development for sustainable development. In this regard, Pakistan has taken several steps over the years to address the issue of poverty.
The advisor said Benazir Income Support program is providing financial assistance to five point five million people in one hundred and eighteen districts. He said the present government has enhanced the budget for the program and said this will be further expanded in the years to come. He said organized efforts are also now being made for disaster management and meet the challenges posed by the climate change.
