AJK needs export processing zoneSeptember 21, 2014
Karachi: President of Pak-Kashmir Business Forum Sardar Maqbool Zaman has stressed the need of setting up an export processing zone in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) to facilitate the traders and boost local manufacturing, trading and export sectors.
Talking to media here on Monday, he said the law and order situation in Azad Jammu and Kashmir is ideal and industrialists can set up their units here with a complete peace of mind. He regretted that many Pakistani investors are shifting their capital abroad and setting up industries in Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and other countries. He urged them that instead of shifting industry to Bangladesh and other such destinations abroad they should come to Azad Jammu and Kashmir and they would never regret this decision, because law and order situation is ideal and peace and tranquillity found everywhere in the whole region.
Sardar Maqbool Zaman said crime is negligible in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and cases of kidnapping for ransom zero. He said this is why that many industrialists have already started setting up their industries in the AJK instead of going Bangladesh. He said the government is also offering them attractive incentives including tax holiday. He said the industries of assembling motorcycles, foam making, plastic goods and match boxes could be run here with great success and profitability. He said with setting up an export processing zone here, a lot of problems of industrialists could be easily resolved and the production process and exports boosted greatly.
Sardar Maqbool Zaman said with the exchange of delegations of traders between Pakistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir would pave way for many new opportunities of investment and trade and in this regard Pak-Kashmir Business Forum has made a comprehensive plan to provide residential and other related facilities to traders and industrialists.
He said tourism is the plus-point of Azad Jammu and Kashmir due to its scenic locations and healthy and pollution-free environment. He said a large number of local and international tourists have visited this beautiful region in last five years. He said the -Kashmir Business Forum would also play its due role in boosting tourism and hotel industry. He urged the chambers of commerce and industry and other business forums to send delegations to the AJK so that they can themselves assess the huge potential of investment in this peaceful region. He appealed to all stakeholders to take steps for early establishment of an export processing zone in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
