Aman Ambulance Service to be launched in Thatta, SajawalJune 16, 2015
KARACHI:Aman Health Foundation’s Head of Emergency Medical Services Athar Jamal on Wednesday said Aman Ambulance Service would be launched in Thatta and Sajwal districts of Sindh province this year to improve standard of rescue services.
This he said during a media briefing at Aman Ambulance headquarters at the Aman Health Foundation office here. Jamal said that under the agreement with provincial government, Aman Ambulance Service would be made operational in Thatta and Sajawal districts, while it will be expanded across the province within five years in phases.
He informed that around 4,000 emergencies occurs across Karachi city every day, out of which 1,000 to 1,200 are considered life-threatening if quality treatment cannot be provided to the victims within an hour. He said Aman ambulances are operating across the city, which are equipped with state-of-the-art treatment facilities to dealt with emergency cases.
He said qualified and skilled doctors, paramedical staff and nurses of Aman Health Foundation are always ready to provide treatment facilities to emergency victims by shifting them to hospitals through ambulances. He said Aman Emergency Medical Services has, to date, recorded more than 580,000 interventions of which 80% are for life saving.
He informed that currently, 80 Aman ambulances are operating in Karachi from various big and small stations, and soon circle ofambulances would be expanded in Sindh within five years.
Aman Healthcare Service’s CEO, Dr Saadia Quraishy, said: Research shows that 15% severally injured children die en route to medical facilities, hence Aman Ambulance is the best equipped service to tackle extreme emergencies such as cardiac arrest, strokes, accidents, injuries and obstetric emergencies while on the way to hospitals.
She said a large number of deaths and diseases in Pakistan are preventable; a fact that has led the Aman Foundation to undertake major healthcare initiatives such as Aman-Ambulance – Its Emergency Medical Services (EMS). She said Aman Amublance Service had received an award from the Asian EMS Council in October 2014 for being Asia’s best institutional emergency medical service.
