Anisa Zeb urges to ensure code of conduct for protection of women against harassment at work places

Peshawar: A workshop in collaboration with Federal Ombudsman Secretariat for Protection against Harassment of Women at Work Place and Employers’ Federation of Pakistan on “Act for Women Protection against Harassment at Work Place” was held on Monday in Peshawar.

The basic purpose of workshop was to ensure code of conduct at the work place to provide protection and safety to women against harassment.  Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Labour and Mineral Development, Anisa Zeb Tahirkheli was the chief guest on this occasion. While former Provincial Minister for Information and Member Board of  Directors EFP Haji Mohammad Javed, Special Assistant to Chief Minister Dr.Mehar Taj Roghani, President Employers’ Federation of Pakistan, Khawaja  Mohammad Noman, representative of Federal Ombudsman Secretariat Shahrukh Abbasi, President Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chamber of Commerce, Zulfiqar Ali Khan, Secretary General Pakistan Workers Federation, Zahoor Awan, Chairperson Provincial Commission on Status of Women Neelum Toru and others also attended the workshop.

Speakers on the occasion highlighted the need and important aspects of code including guideline for behaviour of employees, management and the owners of an organization to ensure a working environment free from harassment and intimidation.

Provincial Minister Anisa Zeb while addressing the workshop appreciated the code of conduct under protection against harassment of women at work place Act, 2010 and urged both governments and private organizations to ensure code of conduct at work place for the protection and safety of women against harassment.

She said that all the manifestations of harassment including abuse of authority, creating a hostile environment and retaliation must be discouraged. She further stated that  the teachings of Islam and codes of conduct, regarding women protection should  be enforced practically in order to establish a peaceful society.

She said the present provincial government has taken fruitful initiative and a unanimous resolution from all the political parties has also been presented on the floor of the provincial assembly.

Haji Mohammad Javed, Dr. Mehar Taj Roghani and others also addressed the workshop and reiterated their commitment to continue their struggle against the women harassment at work place.
