Another polio case surfaces in Karachi

KARACHI: Another polio case was reported in Karachi on Tuesday, taking the total toll to 11 in Sindh province, said Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI) official.

Deputy Project Director, Expanded Program on Immunization Dr Durray Naaz said new P1 wild case was reported from Mansehra Colony, Landhi area of Karachi. She said polio virus was detected in a one year-old Ahmed son of Zakir Shah in Union Council-5 in Mansehra Colony.

A official of health department said 11 cases were reported from Sindh out of which 10 from Karachi and one from Sanghar. He said four cases were reported from Gadap town, two from Landhi town and one each from Baldia, Orangi, SITE, North Karachi and Sanghar District. He informed that the total number of polio cases reached 117 in Pakistan in 2014.
