Asif cruises into Taipei City Boxing Tourney semis

Karachi: Pakistani pugilist Syed Mohammad Asif cruised into the summit clash of 4th Taipei City Cup International Boxing Tournament after winning his semifinal match on Saturday at Taiwan Gymnasium, Taipei City (China).

Competing in 52-Kg fly weight category, Pakistan No 1 Asif recorded a 3-0 victory against Mongolian boxer Enkhtur Enkh Nasan in the semifinal clash to secure his place in the final of the tournament.

Asif will now face Japanese boxer Mikito Nakano to decide who will clinch the title.

Meanwhile, the only other Pakistani boxer featuring in the tournament Jahanzaib Khan bowed out of the event after losing quarterfinal clash in 49-Kg light fly weight category to Thai boxer Tanes Ongjunta by 2-1.

Pugilists from 16 countries are featuring in the tournament. The competing countries are Australia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, South Korea, Macao, Malaysia, Mongolia, Pakistan, Russia, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei and Chinese Taipei.
