ATC awards death sentence to robber

KARACHI: Karachi Anti-terrorism Court (ATC) on Tuesday sentenced a robber to death for murdering a salesman upon resisting robbery attempt. Accused Khurram Jalil was found guilty of murdering salesman Rashid on January 03, 2010 during robbery attempt within jurisdiction of Soldier Bazaar police station.

The ATC sentenced to death the accused and directed him to pay compensation of Rs500000 to victim’s family. Upon failure to pay compensation, he had to serve more two years in the prison.

Besides, ATC sentenced him five-year imprisonment for injuring ASI Muzaffar Hussain and head constable Gulbaz Khan. He was ordered to pay amount of Rs5000 compensation to each victim.

Meanwhile, the court issued warrants for the arrest of an absconder Dilawar Khan and ordered Soldier Bazaar police to arrest him and produce him in the court.

According to prosecution, Accused Jalil along with accomplice Dilawar entered the Nasir Autos within jurisdiction of Soldier Bazaar police station on January 3, 2010 with intention to commit robbery. Jalil killed salesmen Rashid when he offered resistance.

ASI Muzaffar Hussain and head constable Gulbaz Khan, who were on routine patrol, tried to arrest the accused but they opened firing at police party injuring them as result. An FIR 3/2010 on complaint of victim ASI was lodged and police arrest the accused Dilawar on May 02.
