Atif stresses for viable hydel power generation projects in KP

Peshawar: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Power and Elementary Education Mohammad Atif Khan has directed the authorities concerned of the Energy and Power Department to prepare short term viable hydel power generation schemes for cheapest electricity to develop the industrial sector. He added that it was the only way for strengthening of economy and eradication of poverty and unemployment from the province.

He issued these directives while chairing a review meeting of Energy and Power schemes at Peshawar on Wednesday. The meeting was briefed about new, ongoing as well as proposed projects in detail. Besides others the meeting was attended by Secretary Energy and Power Engr: Naeem Khan.

The Energy Minister said, poverty and unemployment were the big issues of the country in general and of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in particular and the only solution of it was industrialization the in the province adding that dream of which could not be materialized without uninterrupted and cheap electricity.

He maintained that Allah Almighty had bestowed our province with huge natural resources side by side running water in abundance. He furthered that the PTI led provincial government was focusing on hydel power generation as it was the easy and better way of cheapest electricity.

He said, the KP government was working on 2400 MW hydel power projects in the province. He directed the concerned authorities to expedite work on Matiltan and Koto schemes. He also directed to evolve strategy for solarisation also side by side the hydel power.

Atif Khan asked the quarters concerned to keep liaison with the Federal Government in regard Energy and Power projects and prepare a strong case for achieving the provincial rights. Provision of cheapest electricity to industrial sector was our foremost priority as it was the guarantee of bright future, he concluded.
