Baqai Institute of Diabetes launches ‘insulin my life’ for children

KARACHI: Renowned Diabetologist Prof Abdul Basit on Thursday said regular use of insulin is imperative for health and life of children suffering from diabetes and delay in provision of insulin can put patient’s life in danger.

He shared these views while addressing a press conference held at Karachi Press Club. Dr Zahid Mian and Dr Saif ul Haq were also present.

Prof Basit said Baqai Institute of Diabetes in collaboration of World Diabetes Foundation has initiated a program ‘Insulin my Life’ under which free insulin would be provided to children in 34 different locations of Sindh province.

He said sharply rise in diabetes cases is the real challenge for world and Pakistan is amongst the countries where ratio of disease prevalence is quite high. He said over 7 million people have been living with diabetes in the country and their number may reach 16 million by 2025.

He informed that Pakistan has got number eight position in worldwide diabetic cases and it can reach the 4th position in 2025. He said diabetes can affects all human organs like heart, eyes, kidney and may result into leg amputation.

He said simple dietary habits, regular exercise and physical activeness can prevent people from diabetes.

Dr Saif ul Haq said Baqai Institute of Diabetes is organizing an diabetes awareness walk on 28 November 2014 with aim to spread message across the province through media.
