KARACHI: “This year will mark the biggest cattle trade ever in the city because of the peace and serenity spread across the city in the wake of ongoing successful Karachi operation,” said Media Cell In-Charge Animal Market Naveed Baig on Monday.

He told PPI that about 0.125 million bovines, 10, 000 goats/ sheep and 450 camels had arrived in the largest animal market of Asia and more were drifting in as the market had set in motion after inauguration on 5th September.

Baig said a large number of people with families were thronging until late in the night, as security of the market was being monitored through vigilance security cameras and uniformed and plain-clothed security personnel.

“The religious zeal of sacrificing animals in the path of Allah (SWT) had started diminishing with the different kinds of threats, however the zeal has regained the strength to spend money as religious duty,” he said.

Malir Cantonment Board President Farhat Abbas has said that the cow market was set up on 950 acres, comprising 29 blocks, which included goat and camel markets as well.

He said the entry fee for per cow/ camel was Rs1000 and Rs600 for a goat.
